Jet Fire Box – Rigid fire protection enclosure system for petrochemical equipment
The Jetfire Box is a customized stainless steel box system with high quality fire-resistant insulation materials incorporated, resistant to a
heat flux of around 300 kW/m2. This heat is released during the ignition of propane gas, which reaches flame temperatures of around 2282 °F within 5 minutes. These types of fires are called jet fires and critical control elements on petrochemical plants, refineries and nuclear power plants (valves, flanges and actuators on pipework) must be protected against this hazard.
Testing and certification
Two types of the Jetfire Box have been tested and certified and two different critical temperatures have been reached after a jetfire fire curve of 60 minutes;
Jetfire Box 1 | Jetfire Box 2 |
JF / Component / 257 °F/ 60 min | JF / Component / 428 °F / 60 min |
JF / Component / 167 °F / 45 min | JF / Component / 266 °F / 45 min |
JF / Component / 86 °F / 30 min | JF / Component / 122 °F / 30 min |
Both tests were conducted in accordance with the ISO 22899-1 test method under the supervision of Lloyds Register.
Application
The Jetfire Box has been tested in a worst-case scenario with a maximum section factor of 80 m-1, making the system widely applicable. To provide a suitable solution for every construction, the Jetfire Box is custom made. For complex shapes, where the robustness of a box is not required, the Forfyre Jet Fire Jacket has been developed. This is a custom-made insulation jacket.
Installation advantages
